What it does not affect
The numbers. A cost estimate here is never nudged to make a product look cheaper, a job look more worth doing, or a link more worth clicking. Nobody pays us to publish a particular range, to recommend a contractor, or to rank a product favourably.
We also don’t sell your project as a lead. Some cost sites are lead-generation businesses with an article attached; this one isn’t, and you’ll never be asked for a phone number before you’re told what something costs.
Where a guide’s honest answer is that the job isn’t worth doing, or that the cheap option is fine, that’s what it says. Our figures are estimates compiled from published sources, and How We Estimate sets out where they come from and what they leave out.
